Trump Withdraws Endorsement of Marjorie Taylor Greene After Rift

President Donald Trump announced Friday that he is withdrawing his endorsement of Republican lawmaker Marjorie Taylor Greene, citing her recent criticism of his agenda in a sharp break with one of his most vocal congressional allies.

“I am withdrawing my support and endorsement of ‘Congresswoman’ Marjorie Taylor Greene, of the great state of Georgia,” Trump posted on Truth Social late Friday.

Greene, a longtime defender of Trump, has recently taken positions at odds with the White House and fellow Republicans. Trump accused her of constant complaints and said tensions escalated after he shared a poll suggesting she had little chance of winning a Senate or gubernatorial race without his backing—an endorsement he did not plan to give. He added that conservative voters in her district might consider a primary challenger, and that he would support the right candidate against her in next year’s midterm election.

Greene responded on X, saying Trump “just attacked me and lied about me.” She suggested his move may have been linked to her push for the release of government records related to Jeffrey Epstein, which Trump has dismissed as a Democratic “hoax.” Greene accused him of trying to intimidate Republicans ahead of a vote on the Epstein files, calling his opposition “astonishing.”

On Wednesday, Greene was one of only four House Republicans to join Democrats in signing a petition to force a vote on releasing the full Department of Justice files on Epstein. In recent weeks she has also criticized Trump’s rollout of trade tariffs, questioned his foreign policy priorities, and disagreed with his claims that inflation is under control. She has urged Republicans to develop a plan to address healthcare costs.

Earlier this year, Greene became the first Republican lawmaker to describe the humanitarian crisis in Gaza as genocide. She has rejected speculation that she is positioning herself for a 2028 presidential run, insisting her focus remains on her Georgia district.
