Kano Government Demands Arrest of Ex-Governor Ganduje Over “Inciting” Security Remarks

by Bright

The Kano State Executive Council has called for the immediate investigation and arrest of former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, accusing him of making “inciting and reckless” comments about the state’s security situation.

The resolution followed deliberations at the Council’s 34th Executive Meeting on Thursday at Government House, Kano, where members reviewed remarks attributed to Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin.

Both politicians had alleged that Kano was increasingly vulnerable to banditry and revealed plans to recruit 12,000 personnel into a proposed religious police force known as Khairul Nas.

Council Condemns Remarks
Addressing journalists on Friday, Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, described the statements as dangerous and capable of undermining ongoing security operations.

“The remarks made by the former governor were not only inciting but also reckless,” Waiya said. “They are capable of undermining the collective efforts of the state government and the Federal Government in addressing security challenges.”

The Council noted with concern that suspected bandits infiltrated border communities less than 48 hours after the comments were made, raising suspicions about whether the remarks were premeditated or linked to the attack.

Call for Arrest and Investigation
“We don’t know what Ganduje meant with those statements,” Waiya added. “So we are therefore calling for his arrest. He must be investigated because we cannot afford to watch him destabilise our peace in the state.”

The government reaffirmed its appreciation to federal authorities and security agencies for their continued support in combating insecurity. It stressed that no individual or group would be permitted to establish an illegal militia under any guise.

Appeal for Responsible Leadership
The Council urged political leaders and public office holders to refrain from making statements that could incite unrest, assuring residents of its commitment to maintaining peace, law, and order across Kano State.
