Suspected bandits abducted a bride-to-be, her bridesmaid, and eight other residents in a fresh attack on Chacho village in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State early Sunday.

The raid occurred around 1:30 a.m. when armed men stormed the community, seizing the victims—mostly women—and injuring one person who is receiving medical treatment. Locals said the bride had been preparing for her wedding later that day when the attackers struck.

A community member described the incident as tragic, noting that security operatives arrived nearly an hour after the gunmen had fled, leaving residents frustrated. “We are calling on the government to take its responsibility seriously and protect the lives and property of citizens,” he said.

Police spokesman DSP Ahmad Rufa’i confirmed the attack, saying preliminary information had been received and further details were being compiled.

The abduction adds to a wave of mass kidnappings across Nigeria. Earlier on Sunday, gunmen attacked a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ejiba, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, kidnapping the pastor, his wife, and several worshippers during service. Witnesses said worshippers fled in panic as gunshots rang out, throwing the community into chaos.
