Former presidential candidate Peter Obi on Monday attended the burial Mass of two distinguished members of the Daughters of Divine Love Congregation, Sr. Jane Frances Chioke and Sr. Ann Nwosu, held at the Sacred Heart Chapel in Abakpa-Nike, Enugu State.

Obi, who travelled from Lagos to Enugu for the ceremony, paid tribute to the late sisters, describing them as exemplary figures whose lifelong dedication to healthcare and education left an indelible mark on Nigerian society.

Sr. Jane Frances Chioke was celebrated for her contributions to the health sector, having served as CEO of the Faith-Based Central Medical Foundation and as a member of the Management Board of the ESUT Teaching Hospital. She was a vocal advocate against drug abuse and counterfeit medicines, working to ensure access to genuine pharmaceuticals and compassionate care.

โ€œSr. Jane Frances was a great strength to the medical development of our dear nation,โ€ Obi said, highlighting her role in advancing public health and safeguarding medical integrity.

Sr. Ann Nwosu was equally revered for her work in education. She held leadership roles at several institutions across Nigeria, including St. Joseph Nursery and Primary School in Okene, Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Makurdi, Holy Family School in Kuje, and Holy Ghost College in Okura. Known for her humility and deep compassion, she was praised for her dedication to nurturing young minds.

โ€œSr. Ann helped shape the lives of countless children with care and dedication,โ€ Obi noted. โ€œHer love and respect for others, especially the young, was profound.โ€

Obi emphasized that both women had devoted their lives to two pillars of national developmentโ€”health and educationโ€”and that their legacies serve as enduring examples of selfless service.

โ€œThey built systems that touched lives, empowered communities, and laid foundations for a healthier and more educated society,โ€ he said.

Concluding his tribute, Obi prayed for eternal rest for the sisters and called on Nigerians to draw inspiration from their lives of compassion, faith, and commitment to the common good.
