The Supreme Court has confirmed Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected governor of Edo State, solidifying the earlier ruling of the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
A five-man panel, led by Justice Mohammed Garba Lawal, unanimously dismissed the appeal challenging Okpebholo’s victory, stating that the petitioners failed to provide sufficient evidence to support their claims of electoral irregularities, unlawful votes, and improper declaration of the winner.
In its ruling, the court emphasized that the appellants could not substantiate their allegations of non-compliance with electoral laws, ultimately rendering their appeal without merit. With this judgment, the legal disputes surrounding the Edo State governorship election have been conclusively resolved, affirming Okpebholo’s mandate to lead the state.
