The Lagos State Police Command has announced a 12-hour total restriction of movement on Saturday, July 12, 2025, to ensure security during the local government elections. The ban, covering all roads and waterways, will be enforced from 3:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on election day.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the police emphasized that only essential service providers—including medical emergency responders, accredited election officials, security personnel, and media representatives—will be exempted. All exempted individuals must display valid identification tags issued by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).
The police also outlined additional security measures, including a ban on armed escorts and security aides at polling units to prevent voter intimidation. The use of sirens and covered vehicle number plates near voting centers will also be prohibited, except for authorized emergency vehicles.
Authorities confirmed a massive deployment of police and other security agencies across all 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) to safeguard voters, election officials, and materials. The Interagency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) has finalized arrangements to ensure a peaceful and orderly electoral process.
Residents are advised to comply with the restrictions and plan their movements accordingly. The police reassured the public that adequate measures are in place to protect lives and property throughout the election period.
