The TRNC Human Rights Association condemned the statement of the Spokesperson of the US Department of State and stated that the statement created the image that the title deed of Cyprus was given to the Greek Cypriots and that this right and authority belongs to the USA.
Making a written statement on behalf of the Association, Chairman Hasan Yılmaz Işık stated that the statement of the USA that “the belief that Cyprus’ natural gas, oil and all other natural resources should be shared fairly between the two communities” is not sufficient for the Association, and also to the USA, Cyprus.
He called on the Turks to stop supporting the Greek Cypriot antagonism and the usurpation of their rights on the sea and natural resources recognized by international law and treaties through unilateral drilling.
Yılmaz Işık, called on one hand to “utilize the resources in the Eastern Mediterranean, to create cooperation in their use and to provide the basis for the economic prosperity and permanent energy security of the entire region”, while on the other hand, the President of the Greek Cypriots stated that he was unaware that Ersin Tatar did not even respond to the Confidence Building Measures presented.
