Revolutionary Workers’ Unions Federation (DEV-İŞ), Municipal Workers’ Union (BES) and Famagusta Türk Genel-İŞ started their action of General Warning strike in front of the Assembly of the Republic today, demanding that the Municipalities (Amendment) Bill be withdrawn to the committee and discussed again.
Speaking to Cyprus Post, BES President Mustafa Yalınkaya announced that the employees of the Dipkarpaz municipality, who set out to participate in the action, were arrested.
Reminding that the draft law on municipalities has been on the agenda for a while, Yalınkaya stated that the general assembly convened on the subject today.
Yalınkaya, regarding the coming of the Draft Law to the parliament, “Before it comes, all the lawyers say that it is unconstitutional!” used the phrases.
Mentioning that reforms cannot be made in haste, Yalınkaya said, “Reforms cannot be made by reducing the number of municipalities on the map.”
Underlining that the municipalities were deliberately and willingly dragged into chaos, Yalınkaya said, “They worked in the parliament to reveal the unconstitutionality.”
Stating that the government should withdraw the bill and take a step back, Yalınkaya noted that the reform should be agreed upon and spread over time.
“THEY GAVE OUR NERVE, WE WILL DISCOVER THEM MORE”
Using the words “Our appointed ones are persecuting this society”, Yalınkaya emphasized that they sincerely explained how the reform should be, but that the government played the “sultan of the deaf”.
Yalınkaya said, “They played with our nerves, we will disturb them more.”
