The Minister of Finance, Budget & National Planning,Mrs. Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed, has reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to achieving sustainable economic growth and development through partnerships & collaboration. This she stated at the recently concluded 27th Nigerian Economic Summit in Abuja, Nigeria. 

The summit, which held on the 25th and 26th of October, 2021, with the theme ‘Securing Our Future: The Fierce Urgency of Now’ in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget & National Planning and Nigerian Economic Summit Group, convened national & global leaders in government, business, politics, civil society and academia to deliberate on the theme. 

The hybrid summit convened stakeholders to envision strategies on achieving high and sustained growth towards bringing Nigeria back on it’s path to assuming it’s economic potentials. One of the principal objectives is to foster a people-centered and inclusive approach to rethinking economic, social, political and governance strategies targeted at shaping a secured future for the country. Major discussions were also held on Gender Inclusion, Climate Change, policy formulation and implementation, power sector reform, safe schools debt management, creative & digital economy and many more. 

Other sub themes of the summit include Quality of Life, National Security, Political Economy and Digital Transformation. The summit was opened with opening statements by Mr. Asue Ighodalo, the Chairman, Nigerian Economic Summit Group; welcome remarks by Minister of State Budget & National Planning, Prince Clem Agba; opening remarks by the Minister, Mrs Zainab Ahmed and an opening address by President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR. 

There was a keynote address by the Former Prime Minister of Ethiopia, HE Hailemariam Dessalegn Boshe and a conversation was held with Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on ‘Visualising a Nigeria for our Future’. Other special guests and panelists  include Ministers, Governors, Development partners, business and thought leaders across Nigeria, Africa and from around the world. Recommendations from the summit are collated every year and received by government for review and possible implementation.
