The Head of the Gombe Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Commission, EFCC, Babashani Umar Sanda, has charged staff of the Zone and indeed, all public servants, to live up to their statutory responsibilities by promptly and transparently filing their asset declaration forms to forestall possible prosecution by law enforcement agencies.

Babashani gave the charge in a short remark while declaring open a sensitization lecture for staff of the Commission by the Gombe Office of the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB.

According  to him, ‘‘ the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act, contains explicit code of conduct expected of public officers which are prosecutable if not adhered to; in effect, that you are EFCC staff does not in any way preclude us from prosecution if found wanting.

‘‘In fact, asset declaration is quite imperative to the fight against corruption and EFCC is interested in seeing strict adherence to it as it helps us in our work.”

He thanked the CCB for their advocacy visit noting that the organization has had a long standing relationship with the Commission especially in the area of asset tracing of public servants and Politically Exposed Persons (PEPS).

Earlier, the State Director of CCB, Mrs. Grace Magaji said they were at the EFCC to sensitize the staff on the need not only declare to their assets, but to do so appropriately. She added that the programme is also aimed at letting operatives know what to look out for when scrutinizing asset declaration forms.
