Brazilian forward Richarlison and defender Mason Holgate scored as Everton earned an impressive 2-0 win at Leicester City in the Premier League on Wednesday.
Richarlison fired Carlo Ancelottiโs side ahead in the 21st minute, cutting in from the left before unleashing a low drive which Kasper Schmeichel saw late and failed to stop squeezing in the bottom corner.
Everton made it 2-0 in the 72nd minute when Schmeichel parried out a Michael Keane header from Gylfi Sigurdssonโs corner and did superbly to push Dominic Calvert-Lewinโs follow-up against the bar before Holgate pounced to poke home.
Leicester were awarded a penalty when substitute Ayoze Perez went down under challenge from Andre Gomes but the decision was overturned after the VAR review showed there was no contact from the Everton midfielder.
The victory was Evertonโs fourth in seven away games this season and following their home win over Chelsea at the weekend, the Merseysiders moved up to fifth in the table on 23 points.
Elsewhere, Arsenal piled more pressure on their manager Mikel Arteta with a 1-1 home draw against Southampton which stretched their winless league run to six games after having centre back Gabriel sent off.
Arsenal, who had lost their previous four home games, were left in 15th place on 14 points from 13 games while Southampton moved one place up to third on 24 points.
Theo Walcott scored against his former club to fire the Saints ahead in the 18th minute with a dinked finish over Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno after Che Adams released him through the middle.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang levelled in the 52nd minute with a clinical finish into the bottom left corner after good work by Bukhayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah, and it seemed Arsenal had gained some momentum.
But they were on the back foot again after Gabriel was sent off for a second bookable foul when he hauled down Walcott in the 62nd minute and were fortunate not to fall behind when Nathan Redmond hit the woodwork from close range.
Southampton, who dominated throughout and kept the home side chasing shadows with crisp one-touch passing, survived a late scare in stoppage time when Arsenal defender Rob Holding headed against the crossbar.
Leeds meanwhile claimed their first home win in the Premier League for three months as they beat Newcastle United 5-2 in a rip-roaring contest at Elland Road.
The two sides went toe-to-toe before late goals by Stuart Dallas, Ezgjan Alioski and Jack Harrison secured the points for Marcelo Bielsaโs side who again showed why they have been so good to watch since their top-flight return.
Leeds were all over Newcastle from the kick-off but Jeff Hendrick gave the visitors the lead against the run of play before Patrick Bamford nodded in a close-range equaliser.
A superb move saw Rodrigo head the hosts in front just past the hour mark but Leedsโs defensive frailties allowed Ciaran Clark to drag Newcastle back on level terms three minutes later.
Leeds found another gear though and Dallas headed in a cross by Mateusz Klich before Alioski and Harrison put the icing on the cake with superb counter-attacking goals.
