The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, SSANU, has postponed its National Delegates Conference to elect new leaders, citing violence in some cities as a result of the #EndSARS protests as the reason.
The decision was announced in a statement issued by SSANUโs National Public Relations Officer Abdusobur Salaam in Abuja, saying a new date will be communicated to its members.
The conference was scheduled to hold between October 26 and 27 in Abuja.
The statement reads: โArising from the developments all over the country with respect to the #endsars protests and the ensuing violence and curfews across the States of the Federation, we are compelled to inform you that the National Delegates Conference earlier scheduled for Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th October 2020 has been postponed.
โA new date shall be communicated as soon as the situation is normalized.
โWe apologise for any inconveniences this change of date may have caused you as the situation is beyond our control.โ
It would be recalled that this is the second time SSANU was postponing its National Delegate Conference to elect new national executive officers.
The association had earlier scheduled to hold the election on the last week of March this year but the election could not hold because of the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown imposed by the Federal Government to curtail the spread of COVID-19.
