The Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, has said suspended Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), CP Ibrahim Magu, is not being detained by the Police.

Adamu said Magu is rather being detained by the Presidential Panel investigating the activities of the EFCC.

These were contained in a letter by the Principal Staff Officer to the IGP, DCP Idowu Owohunwa, dated 14th July, 2020, and sighted by The Nation on Wednesday in Abuja.

The letter with number CB: 7000/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOL.489/171 was in response to an application for bail by Maguโ€™s counsel.

Titled โ€˜RE: APPLICATION FOR BAIL,โ€™ it was addressed to Tosin Ojaomo Esq, Ojaomo & Ojaomo Chambers, Abuja.

It reads: โ€œYour letter OOC/TOL/89A/07/2020 of July 2020 on the above underlines subject, refers.

โ€œThe Inspector General of Police directs that your attention be drawn to the fact that the Nigeria Police Force is not investigating CP Ibrahim Magu (your client), and he is accordingly, not being detained by the Police but by the Presidential Panel that is investigating the activities of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

โ€œThe Inspector General of Police therefore advises that you consider redirecting your request to the Chairman of the Presidential Panel for appropriate attention.

โ€œI am to convey the assurances of the warmest regards of the Inspector General of Police, please.โ€
