Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi, has charged the state COVID-19 Squadron Committee to work harder in order to prevent the spread of the virus to the state.

The governor gave this charge when he presided over the State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday at the Government House in Lokoja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Kogi COVID-19 Squadron Committee is headed by the state deputy governor, Mr Edward Onoja with members drawn from stakeholders in the state.

NAN reports that Kogi is one of the states that is yet to record any case of COVID-19 since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country.

The council, prior to the commencement of the meeting, observed a minute silence in honour of some prominent personalities; late Hajia Hauwau Bello, the governorโ€™s mother, who died on March 15, and the late Abba Kyari, former Chief of Staff to the President.

The governor thanked members of the council for standing with him during his trying time, and urged them to show love to their parents, saying those whose parents were no more should continue to pray for the repose of their souls.

Bello noted that the last public function of the late Chief of Staff was when he led the delegation of Mr President down to Okene to sympathise with him and members of his family when his mother passed on.

The governor said the late Chief of Staff was a โ€œfine gentleman and committed patriot, who was completely loyal to his principalโ€.

He, therefore, admonished the committee to continue to work harder and do everything possible to prevent the spread of the virus to the state, even as he urged the people to adhere to all precautionary measures.
