The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has reaffirmed that his administration is committed to ensuring lasting peace and stability in Edo State, noting that the state government has put in place various initiatives to beef up security across the 18 Local Government Areas (LGA) of Edo State.

Governor Obaseki gave the assurance when he received the new commander of the Nigerian Army 4 Brigade, Brigadier General Usman Bello at Government House, Benin City.

He assured that education and infrastructural projects would be evenly spread to include army formations in the state.

The governor, who identified security as top priority of his administration, said the Edo State Government is working closely with security agencies to ensure the security of lives and property.

The governor said, “You are joining us when a lot of thinking and planning is taking place in the security architecture in the state. The country is going through a phase and it requires men of courage and quality leadership to sail us through this phase of our lives”.

According to him, “As a government, we are serious about security because we understand that without the security of lives and property, we can’t achieve our goal of providing for the welfare of the people.”

Obaseki assured that the state government will strengthen ties with the Brigade, adding, “Our first responsibility is to ensure peace and stability in Edo State and this administration has put in place various initiatives to beef up security across the state. There is need for governments and security outfits to be on the same page in tackling security issues.”

The governor also promised to extend the Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation (EdoBEST) programme to some of the Army Schools in the state and expand it to some residential barracks.

He further assured that the dualisation of Ekehuan road would pass through the barrack.

Earlier, Brig. Gen. Bello promised to bring his experience to bear in handling security issues in the state. This, he noted, would enable the governor carryout his ongoing developmental projects across Edo State.
