Murder Of Adeola Owoyale: One to remain in prison for 3 months before trial, others freed

The Nicosia accident court Judge Cenkay, on Friday sentenced one of the suspects to three months in prison before trial will begin for the murder of Obasanjo Adeola Owoyale.

The remaining suspects were released after police find them not connected to the crime.

Police Inspector Assistant Feyyaz ฤฐneci told the court that there was enough testimony showing that suspect’s involvement in the offense of manslaughter. Indicating that the suspect has been living illegally in the country since 2017.

Ineci demanded that the suspect be tried in custody.The defendant’s lawyer demanded that his client be released because he had no ties to the incident. He claimed that he did not know the murdered person and did not know the name of his roommate who he claimed was the actual suspect.

The defendant’s lawyer said his client roommate was only three-month-old on the Island and fled to Nigeria after the crime was committed in their room.

Judge Cenkay Inan, who evaluated the testimony given in his presence, ordered the suspect to remain in prison for not more than three months.

Who is Obasanjo Adeola Owoyale?

Obasanjo Adeola Owoyale, 33, went missing on July 1, 2019 and was found dead in the trunk of his car wrapped with blanket. The car was parked in the area known as the Nicosia schools road on July 8, 2019.

In an apartment raid by Northern Cyprus police, on July 11, several people were detained in connection with the murder. Statements were taken from 38 people during the three days detention period.

The crime scene investigation teams found that there was a blood stain on the walls and on the carpet.

The blood sample was sent to the Ankara Criminal Police Laboratory. The laboratory test showed that the blood on the crime scene matched that of Owoyale.

According to police report, Owoyale, a Cyprus International University PhD student died as a result of “cutting/crushing injuries, multiple fractures of the head bones and brain tissues”.

According to Police Inspector Assistant Feyyaz ฤฐneci, Owoyale was murdered because of 36 thousand 241 euros which was withdrawn from the victim’s account.
