EFCC Trains Officers on Digital Banking Operations, Investigation

The acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu on Monday July 8, 2019 charged officers at the training on digital banking operations and investigation course to put in their best in curbing fraud associated with digital banking.

Magu made this call at the opening ceremony of a four-day intensive training designed to cover several topics on Digital Banking operation and investigation, holding at the EFCC Academy, Karu, Abuja.

He spoke through the representative of the Commandant of the EFCC Academy, Deputy Chief Detective Superintendent Nwanneka Nwokike.

Programme facilitator, Suraj Sanusi, said the training which is designed to improve the capacity of staff in the area of digital banking was as a result of a needs assessment conducted by the EFCC Academy.

โ€œThe training will aid investigating officers in tackling emerging trends in the world of digital banking,โ€ he added.

He further explained that there are new systems, platforms, and software employed by criminals to perpetrate crime.

โ€œOperatives need to be upgraded, and they need to understand the dynamic nature of digital banking operations with regards to giving evidence in court. These would help officers in carrying out their investigations,โ€ he said.

The training covers topics such as: Overview of Digital Banking Operations, Introduction to Banking Fraud, Banking Fraud in Nigeria, Bank Fraud Investigation, Electronic Payment and Remittance Systems in Nigeria, Issues and Challenges in Bank Fraud Investigations.

In an overview of the digital banking operations and investigations, Shehu Ala explained that: โ€œDigital banking has come to stay as from the comfort of your home you can do your banking transactions, hence fraudsters have taken advantage to perpetrate crime, adding that it is on this note that we have to address the menace.โ€

A total numbers of 20 officers from across the EFCCโ€™s zonal offices are participating at the training.
