President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday returned to Abuja after attending the 12th Extra-Ordinary Summit of the African Union in Niamey, Niger Republic.

Buhari’s plane landed at the Presidential Wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja around 1:26 pm with some members of his entourage.

He was received at the airport by top government officials.

In Niger Republic, Buhari at the weekend had participated at the launch of the Operational Phase of the AfCFTA where he signed the agreement on behalf of Nigeria.

By signing the treaty, Nigeria became the 53rd nation to sign the free trade agreement.

The signing of the agreement also came over a year since the AfCFTA Agreement was opened for signature in Kigali, Rwanda, at the 10th Extraordinary Summit of the African Union, on 21st March 2018.

The AfCFTA is expected to be the world’s largest free trade area since the formation of the World Trade Organization, with a potential market of 1.2 billion people.
