Kaduna State Quality Assurance Authority has said that not less than 300,000 primary six pupils from private and public schools across the state on Saturday sat for the 2019 Placement Test into Junior Secondary School 1.
Malam Nasir Mohammed, Director, Education Resource Department, Kaduna State Quality Assurance Authority, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Kaduna that it was the first time the pupils would be made to write the examination to be qualified for placement into JSS I.
โWhat we did previously was to interview the pupils and ask them to read an English text or write their names and so on and then place them into any of our public junior secondary schools.
He said writing the test had become imperative because of the state governmentโs quest for quality education, we decided for the first time to subject the primary six pupils to examination to test their eligibility for placement.
โThis is part of efforts to ensure that only those who acquired the basic knowledge of primary school education are admitted into JSS I to improve the quality of learning.
โThis, in the long run, will encourage primary school pupils to study hard to pass the common entrance examination and proceed to JSS I.
Mohammed said that space was provided in the examination answer sheets for the pupils to indicate three schools of their choice.
NAN reports that the examination, which was conducted free by the Education Resource Department of the stateโs Quality Assurance Authority, took place in all public secondary schools across the state.
