The Governor-elect of Kwara State, Mr AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, said the state had finally been set free from political bondage and underdevelopment.

AbdulRazaq, who was the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, said this in his acceptance speech after being declared winner of the governorship election held on Saturday.

Declaring the results of the poll on Sunday at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, the state Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Lafia, Nasarawa State, Prof. Muhammad Liman, said AbdulRazaq polled 331,546 votes to emerge as the winner of the election.

His Peoples Democratic Party counterpart, Mr Abdulrazaq Atunwa, polled 114,754 votes to emerge as the runner-up in the election.

Consequently, Abdulrazaq beat Atunwa with a margin of 216,792 votes.

Notably, the APC beat the PDP in all 16 local government areas of the state.

Liman added that out of 1,376,372 registered voters in the state, 464,393 were accredited.

Total valid votes were put at 453,433; rejected votes were 9,994; while the number of total votes cast were 463,427.

Whereas different party representatives were around at the INEC office to witness the declaration of results, those of the PDP boycotted the venue.

Meanwhile, in his acceptance speech, AbdulRazaq said as much as the โ€œhistoricโ€ event called for celebrations, the people should rather reflect on the challenges ahead and be united.

In a statement, he dedicated his victory to Kwarans, whom he said stood resolutely to see through the revolution that started many years ago.

He said, โ€œOn March 9, the people of Kwara State finally shook off the yoke of political subjugation and socioeconomic stagnation by voting overwhelmingly for our party in the governorship and House of Assembly elections.

โ€œWe are faced with the challenge of evolving a Kwara that works for all, away from the abysmal state of affairs now.. We promise to diligently implement our manifesto for the good of our people.โ€

He said he would work together with everyone in the state to propel it forward.

โ€œFinally, we are grateful to everyone who supported the โ€˜O to geโ€™ (Enough is enough!) movement,โ€ he added.
