The Independent National Electoral Commission on Tuesday declared that Peoples Democratic Party won Saturday’s presidential election in Delta.

The Collating Officer for the election in the state, Prof. Seth Jaja, who announced the result in Asaba, said that the party won in 23 local government areas out of 25 in the state.

Jaja, from Federal University, Otuoke, declared that PDP polled 594,068 votes across the 25 local governments, while All Progressives Congress scored 221,292 votes.

He said that PDP won the election in Aniocha South, Aniocha North, Oshimili South, Oshimili North, Ika South, Ika North-East, Burutu, Sapele, Ughelli South, Okpe, Warri South, Warri South West, Warri North and Udu.

The other areas where the PDP also won are Ethiope West, Bomadi, Uvwie, Isoko North, Isoko South, Ndokwa East, Ndokwa West, Burutu and Patani,

The APC, he said, won in Ethiope East and Ughelli North.

Jaja said that the state had 2,719, 313 registered voters, and that 891,647 voters were accredited for the election.

He announced that total valid votes cast were 829,762, while 52, 492 were voided.

Jaja commended the political parties that participated in the exercise for the peaceful conduct that prevailed.

He also commended the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Cyril Omorogbe and security agencies for their support.

Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to the President on Justice Reform, Mrs. Juliet Ibekaku, who is also the APC candidate for the Enugu West Senatorial District has rejected the result of Saturday’s election for the zone.

“I reject the result announced by Enugu State Independent National Electoral Commission in its entirety and will contest it,’’ Ibekaku told a news conference on Tuesday in Enugu.

“I call on well meaning Enugu people that have evidence that will assist us to please do so.’’

She alleged that Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections in Enugu State were fraught with irregularities and outright hijacking of ballot boxes and ballot papers.

Ibekaku said that apart from the non-use of smart card readers, there was indiscriminate thumb-printing of ballot papers by individuals who disguised as INEC officials, adding that there was also vote-buying.

She, however, assured her supporters in the zone that their votes would count.
