A lawmaker in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Mr Hilary Bisong, has begged the federal government to rehabilitate the Calabar-Biase federal highway to end the hardship of people plying the road.

Bisong, who represents Boki II State Constituency and also the Chairman, House Committee on Transport and Marine Services, said the federal government must not delay in rescuing residents of the area from hardship and suffering due to the poor state of the road.

โ€œThe state of the road in Iwuru community axis of the road has become very deplorable. The road is a major road in Central Cross River that connects other parts of the state to Calabar.

โ€œMotorists from the central and northern part of the state ply this road daily to Calabar. The road has become a death trap. Many vehicles have fallen over and goods destroyed due to the bad nature of the road. The Federal Ministry of Works has created a diversion from the main road. This is not enough; we want a full rehabilitation of the road. No one can imagine that such a road, as important to Calabar and Nigeria as a whole is in such a very deplorable state. There are deep potholes everywhere along the road and this is not good enough for private and commercial vehicles,โ€™โ€™ he said.
