Two ‘rustlers’ killed as police recover over 400 stolen herds in Kaduna

Two suspected cattle rustlers were yesterday killed in gun battle with operatives of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Operation Absolute Sanity at Kagarko forest in Kaduna State.

The rustlers were said to have engaged the operatives in a gun fight after their were caught fleeing with 413 rustled cows and 50 sheep.

It was gathered that the incident occurred around 2am, forcing other members of their gang to abandon the stolen herds and an AK47 rifle.

The recovered herds, it was gathered, were moved to Katari Town, where their owners identified them.

According to the police, after disbursements to the owners, there were 76 cattle and nine sheep left unclaimed.

Giving details of the owners, the police said 71 cattle belonged to Idi Ibrahim, 45 cows to Addullah Sani, Ibrahim Mohd owned 13 cows, Adamu Lawal 21 cows and 26 sheep.

“Others include Suleiman Sa’idu- 33 cows and two Sheep; Hamisu Ya’u- eight cows; Musa Sani -65 cows  and 13 sheep; Sale Sani -60 cows; Rumi -17 cows; Yakubu Katafila- two cows and Yusuf Muhammad-two cows.”
