Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes his side have the depth in the squad to compete in different competitions but did not rule out signing reinforcements in January.

Having missed out on Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, Klopp brought in Mohammad Salah, Dominic Solanke, Andrew Robertson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the close season.

Ahead of the teamโ€™s trip to Leicester City for their League Cup third round clash, the German said he was happy with the personnel at his disposal โ€œat the momentโ€.

โ€œFrom todayโ€™s perspective, yes โ€“ we will see how it is in January,โ€ he told the clubโ€™s website (www.liverpoolfc.com).

โ€œI think the squad is wide enough to play in different competitions and to come as far as possible and thatโ€™s the plan at the moment.โ€

Questions have been raised about Liverpoolโ€™s back line which has leaked nine goals in five league games. They lost 5-0 to Manchester City before the weekendโ€™s 1-1 draw with Burnley.

The clubโ€™s defensive frailties were also exposed in the 2-2 draw with Sevilla in the Champions League last week but Klopp said there was no need to panic.

โ€œWe will see how it is in January but, in this moment, I feel comfortable when I think about different opportunities to use the players and to bring the players in different games,โ€ he said.

Klopp said Oxlade-Chamberlainโ€™s switch to Merseyside from Arsenal made โ€œcomplete senseโ€ and that the England international had been roped in as a long-term prospect.

โ€œA new start isโ€ฆ kind of a relief. You are in a situation in your old clubโ€ฆ and you accept it at some point and then itโ€™s difficult to make the next step,โ€ Klopp said.

โ€œI thought it made complete sense for Alex to change club, especially to come here. So far, I can see that he has settled in perfectly.โ€
