Police tape outside home in Amesbury, Salisbury where Russell Worthington is alleged to have stabbed his wife |
A husband became extremely angry that his wife did not appreciate the fact that he cooked her dinner, according to police in the United Kingdom.
Amesbury police said that they have arrested 61-year-old Russell Worthington, after being accused of stabbing his wife, Gail, 63.
Worthington has been charged with one count of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH). According to the criminal complaint, Worthington married his wife 33 years ago.
They fought on a regular basis, and Gail admitted that she turns into a monster when she drinks alcohol. Worthington told the court that his wife hated him for the past 30 years.
He said that he took good care of her despite her shortcomings, and all he got back was abuse. One night, Worthington cooked chicken and served it to his wife.
When she complained that the chicken was very dry, Worthington grabbed a knife and stabbed her. He then called the police to say that he killed his wife.
Police officers who arrived at the scene, found Gail barely conscious on a couch. Gail spent five weeks at the intensive care unit before being released.
In court, Gail came to her husbandโs defense, saying that she has a drinking problem. She also said that she walked into the knife.
The jury found that Worthington was not guilty of GBH.
Instead, he was convicted of unlawful wounding.
GBH carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, while the lesser charge of unlawful wounding is punishable by up to five years in jail.
