A man was arrested on a charge of murder after his Tinder date fell to her death following a night of drinking and sex, according to police in Australia.
Gold Coast police said that they have arrested 30-year-old Gable Tostee, after being accused of causing the death of 26-year-old Warriena Wright of New Zealand.
In court, Tostee pleaded not guilty to one count of murder, claiming he was acting in self defense as Wright was drunk and assaulting him.
According to the police investigation, Wright and Tostee met through the dating app Tinder. They spent a good portion of the night drinking alcohol and having sex, but at some point, they began to fight.
Two neighbors told police that they heard Wright screaming before she fell to her death.
Prosecutors told the court that Wright feared for her life after being locked outside on the balcony that she tried to climb down to a lower floor to escape from Tostee.
However, she slipped and fell down 14 floors. She was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe head injuries.
