A father in California, was arrested for killing his young daughter in front of his young son by drowning her in a church’s baptismal pool.
Police heard calls for help from a naked man who was standing in a parking lot at the police station.
Officers who ran outside, found Gerardo Mendoza Ordaz, 42, of Healdsburg, standing with his daughter, who was soaking wet and unconscious.
His partially dressed 9-year-old son was standing next to him. The incident unfolded at about 8:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The girl was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
During their investigation, police learned that the father drowned his daughter in the sanctuary pool at St. John the Baptist Catholic church.
Ordaz was arrested after it was determined that the drowning was not accidental.
Healdsburg Police Chief Kevin Burke said police that Ordaz – who lives with his wife and children – and his son, were the only people in the church at the time.
