A woman of Kentucky, is overjoyed to have given birth to five healthy babies.
Katie Schaftlein got a big surprise when the babies came 11 weeks early and were born on her birthday.
Schaftlein gave birth to quintuplets on her 26th birthday at the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital in Lexington. The couple, who wanted a large family, never imagined that it would happen overnight.
Katie said that she and her husband Lucas, were trying to have a baby, but she was having a hard time conceiving. She started taking fertility drugs and she finally got pregnant with five babies.
The babies, four girls and one boy, were born 11 weeks premature, but they are all healthy and getting stronger in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit.
The smallest baby was born at 1 pound and 9 ounces while the biggest weighed 2 pounds and 7 ounces. The couple named their children Savannah, Sadie, Sofia, Scarlett, and Lucas Jr.
