A police officer in Colorado, was suspended without pay for stealing money from a crash victim.

Denver police arrested one of its own on Friday, after he was seen on his own body camera stealing $1,200 while investigating a crash scene.

Police said that the injured man, who was a suspect in a crime, crashed while fleeing from police. Paramedics removed some of the victimโ€™s clothes while treating him.

48-year-old police officer Julian Archuleta, was seen searching the suspect’s car and clothing. His body cam showed that he found a stack $100 bills in the manโ€™s clothing, according to the arrest report.

Archuleta did not make a note of the cash. However, another detective had recorded the $1,200 in cash as evidence.

Archuleta faces charges of theft, official misconduct and tampering with physical evidence.

The police department refused to release the body camera footage, saying that it was evidence for the criminal case in progress.

After being called in by internal affairs, Archuleta contacted a representative of the police union to let them know that he was being investigated for theft.

Archuleta contacted the union representative again an hour later, to say he had found $1,200, which โ€œmust have fallen into his bag,โ€ according to police.

Archuleta turned the money over to internal affairs officers, but he refused to talk to investigators.
