A personal trainer was arrested on a charge of criminal transmission of HIV after allegedly infecting three women with the virus by repeatedly having sex with them, according to police in Illinois.
Wilmette police said that they have arrested 46-year-old Jimmy Amutavi, after being accused of infecting at least three women with HIV by having sex with them.
In court, Amutavi pleaded not guilty to three counts of criminal transmission of HIV. He was booked into jail, and his bail was set at $150,000.
He was also ordered to have no contacts with the three women. If convicted, Amutavi faces up to seven years in prison.
According to the criminal complaint, Amutavi had unprotected sex with the three women while working as their personal trainer.
When all three women confronted him, he denied having the virus despite being diagnosed 15 years ago.
In court, Amutavi, who is a father of a 5-year-old child, said that he did not infect those women since he had been taking anti-retroviral drugs that makes it almost impossible for him to transmit the virus that causes AIDS.
