Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) militants attacked the Gedu base near the Bashiqa training camp in northern Iraq on Oct. 9, Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.
There were no immediate reports of casualties from the artillery attack on the Gedu base.
The Turkish Armed Forces responded immediately and destroyed a gun emplacement controlled by ISIL. It also downed an unmanned aerial vehicle under ISIL control, using a stinger missile.
A row recently erupted between Baghdad and Ankara after the Iraqi Parliament passed a motion against the presence of Turkish troops at the Bashiqa camp.
The Iraqi parliament sent a diplomatic note to Turkey’s ambassador on Oct. 4, after which Turkey summoned Iraq’s ambassador to Ankara.
