A man recorded a video message to his family and friends, saying goodbye and apologizing for being stupid.
Kevin Diepenbrock, 41, is lucky to be alive, but his friend died after the two got into a motorcycle accident.
According to Tennessee Highway Patrol, Diepenbrock and his friend, 29-year-old Phillip Polito, were riding their motorcycles on the part of U.S. Route 129 which is known as โThe Dragon,โ because it has 318 curves in 11 miles.
During the ride, Polito braked and was hit by Diepenbrockโs bike. Both bikes veered off the road, sending the men flying over an embankment and down a steep hill.
Diepenbrock suffered injuries that include punctured lungs, broken ribs and multiple spinal fractures.
Diepenbrock tried calling for help, but his phone did not have service. He tried to reach out to people on Facebook, but it did not work.
Instead, he recorded a farewell message to his loved ones, thinking that he would die before he was found.
In the recording, he said: โI just wanted to say I love you guys. Sorry I was being stupid, but you know thatโs what I do.โ
He then told his wife Courtney, his parents and a number of friends that he loves them, and asked that someone take care of his puppies.
Diepenbrock was lying in pain for 30 hours, until he was finally rescued when a couple stopped at the side of the road and heard his call for help.
He was taken to a hospital, where his wife Courtney, who is a physical therapist, is helping him recover.
