Two minor children and a domestic worker were treated for smoke inhalation late Saturday after managing to escape a fire that broke out in their home in Ayia Fyla, Limassol, Cyprus.

According to CNA, the fire service received a call just after 10pm that a fire had broken out downstairs in the two-storey house.

The blaze started from a sofa in the open-plan living room and kitchen area and was brought under control in less than half an hour.

The two children and the domestic worker had been asleep upstairs at the time and the children’s parents were not home.

According to CNA, the domestic worker had come downstairs and spotted the fire, sounding the alarm. A neighbour tried to enter to reach the children but the dense smoke stopped him but the domestic worker managed to get through and bring them out of the house before firemen arrived.

The children and the domestic worker were treated on the spot for smoke inhalation and then taken by ambulance to Limassol hospital where they were kept in for observation.

The fire service was on Sunday investigating the cause of the blaze.
