A burglar came up with a lame excuse for breaking into a tire shop, according to police in Washington.

The Seattle Police Department said that they have arrested a 26-year-old man and his 29-year-old accomplice after they were caught inside a tire shop.

Both suspects, who were not identified, were charged with burglary. They were booked into the King County Jail, pending a bail hearing.

Around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, officers were dispatched to the tire shop in the 9000 block of 14th Avenue South to investigate a break-in.

As officers pulled up to the scene, they saw the 26-year-old man in a grey hooded sweatshirt, looking through tire rims inside the business’ fence.

His 29-year-old accomplice was waiting in a white Ford pickup truck that was parked nearby.

Officers also noticed a hole that was cut in the tire shop’s fence, and a collection of five wheels, worth about $2,000, stacked in and around the bed of the pickup truck.

When Officers Bryan Grozav and Hosea Crumpton contacted the men, the 26-year-old claimed that he had crawled through the business’ fence while “looking for his lost cat.”

He added that “the hole in the fence was totally like that when he got there.” The 29-year-old accomplice also provided very little in the way of an explanation.

While officers saw the 29-year-old accomplice walking around the scene, he claimed that he’d been asleep in the pickup truck and had just gotten out of jail.
