A woman called police to report that she had been kidnapped before she was arrested for lying.
The woman of Florida, claimed she was kidnapped at gunpoint.
However, she later admitted that she made up the story because another woman was interested in her boyfriend and she wanted to see if he truly cared about her.
According to the Lake and Polk County sheriffโs office, Janet Elena Brooks, 22, of Clermont, called police to report that she was kidnapped.
She claimed that a man pulled up next to her while she was walking in the parking lot of the Four Corners apartment complex, where she lived.
He then pulled out a gun and ordered her to get into the trunk of his black Kia. She said that the armed man then drove her to a dog park in Polk County, where he ordered her to get out of his car and he left.
Police took her claim very seriously at first, but after reviewing surveillance videos from the area of her apartment complex, it became clear that Brooks walked towards U.S. Highway 27 alone and on her own free will.
Brooks was charged with filing a false report with law enforcement. She was booked in the Lake County Jail, where her bail was set at $2,000.
It is not known whether her boyfriend came to post her bail.
