A teacher’s career ended in the beginning of the school year after she was found in possession of drugs.

23-year-old Ana Carrera of Texas, was very happy when she found a teaching job at a school in San Antonio.

However, her dreams were quickly shattered after police conducted a drug sweep at the Lanier High School.

A K-9 dog unit was brought in for a random search at around 9:30 a.m., and according to police, the dog walked directly to the teacher’s briefcase.

Police said that they found a bag with less than 2 ounces of marijuana in her possession.

Carrera was arrested and was charged with a misdemeanor for possession of marijuana under 2 ounces in a drug-free zone.

Carrera resigned from her position as a Spanish teacher after she was freed from jail on $1,200 bail.

“This is a very disappointing incident, and we do not want it to take away from the rest of the faculty, who serve as positive role models for the students of the Lanier High School,” the school district said in a statement.

The Texas Department of State Health Services reported that more than 23 percent of students in grade 7 through 12 have admitted to using marijuana in the past.
