Police in Ohio, launched an investigation after paramedics found a fresh human heart in the field behind a supermarket.
The Norwalk Police Department said that the paramedics were shocked to find the human organ while sitting in their ambulance behind the Friendship Food Mart.
The paramedics first dumped the bag and the heart into a garbage bin, but were ordered to retrieve it. They then called the police and handed over the heart around 7:30 p.m.
Investigators determined that the heart was still fresh. Nobody has come forward to claim the heart. The heart was in good condition and does not appear to have come from a person who died as part of a violent crime.
Sgt. Jim Fulton of the Norwalk Police Department, said that this was the first time someone found a human heart dumped in a field.
