Apparently, having the world’s highest (and longest) glass-bottomed bridge isn’t enough for China, it’s also almost done with constructing the world’s highest bridge.

Over the weekend, engineers linked the two ends of the Beipanjiang Bridge, which spans a river in Guizhou province, 565 meters below. Guizhou, of course, is also home to the world’s largest radio telescope.

Actually, China already had the world’s tallest bridge with the Sidu River bridge in Hubei, but this new one extended their lead by another 69 meters. When it comes to world records, every inch counts.

The bridge cost over 1 billion yuan. It’s one small part of a 4.7 trillion yuan plan to better connect the country’s most rural regions. It will cut travel times between Guizhou province and Yunnan province by around 3 hours, state media reports.

It’s expected to be open to the public later this year.
