Six injured, including four children, in blast in Turkey’s southeast

An unknown object found by children on the street exploded in the Nusaybin district of the southeastern province of Mardin late on Aug. 16, injuring six people, including four children.

The children found the unknown object on a road leading to Midyat at around 8 p.m. and were playing with it when it exploded.

Those wounded in the blast, identified as Halise Ağırman, 41, Latihan Beşir, 33, Yaşar Turan, 11, Bilal Düzgün, 11, Eyüp Çakmak, 10, and Azad Dayan,7, were taken to the Nusaybin State Hospital in ambulances.

An investigation has been launched into the incident and police have started examinations to determine the origins of the unknown object.

Also on Aug. 16, the dome of an under-construction mosque collapsed in Mardin’s Artuklu district, leaving five workers wounded, two of them severely.

Ambulances were sent to the scene to rescue workers stuck under the debris, and those wounded in the accident were taken to local hospitals.

Mardin Governor Mustafa Yaman has visited the scene of the accident.
