A 23-year-old woman in Oregon was taking photos of her friend jumping into a river when she suddenly slipped — and plunged 90 feet off a cliff to her death, investigators revealed Monday.
The woman was identified as Sydney Craft of Roseburg. She and her friend were visiting the North Umpqua River northeast of the city.
Investigators called to the scene Sunday afternoon said Craft was dead when they arrived. Her friend tried unsuccessfully to give the woman CPR, police said.
Craft had fallen off the cliff to the river’s edge, investigators added.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, Glide Fire District 2 and the Fire District 2 steep angle rescue team all responded to the scene.
“These things are very unfortunate,” sheriff’s captain Dwes Hutson told The Oregonian. “This was a tragic accident.”
