An elderly man was arrested on a charge of endangering public safety after allegedly trying to run over a group of black men with his vehicle, according to police in Austria.
St. Polten police said that they have arrested the 67-year-old man, who was not identified, after trying to mow down five black men who were talking on a sidewalk.
According to the criminal complaint, 29-year-old James G. told investigators that while he was waiting to catch a taxi with four of his black friends around 12:00 a.m., a car stopped a few feet from them and the driver stared at them for a few minutes.
He then drove around the block, and accelerated towards the group of men. At the last moment, the men managed to jump out of the way of the speeding vehicle.
The driver then called the men tree monkeys and he showed them his middle finger. Luckily, there were several police officer nearby, and they arrested the driver.
The suspect did not have a license and he was found to be drunk.
