An elderly couple was left heartbroken after being deceived by their grandson while trying to help him get back on his feet.
The couple said that the downfall began two years ago, when their
grandson asked them to sign documents so that he can get a loan.
Hank Kaweck, 88, and his wife Helen, 87, of Thousand Oaks, California,
said that they trusted their grandson and signed the documents to help
him out.
However, they admit that they did not read the papers before signing the documents.
The elderly couple later learned that they actually signed the deed to
their home over to their grandson. He then took out a loan of $425,000.
After a short time, the grandson refinanced the home and took out another loan. He then defaulted on all of the loans.
The elderly couple was shocked to learn that when their grandson took
them for outings, he actually had realtors show their home to potential
buyers.
He now sold the home and his grandparents are forced to move out.
Although they packed up their belongings, they have nowhere to go.
The Kaweckis, who have three daughters, five grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren, said that they are heartbroken that they have to
move out the place they called home for the past 56 years.
A GoFundMe page was set up for the elderly couple with a goal of collecting $35,000. So far, they raised $15,510.
The couple filed a lawsuit against their grandson and police have launched a criminal investigation against him.
