A man was arrested on a charge of murder after allegedly killing his
elderly wife because he was tired of taking care of her, according to
police in Japan.
Saitama police said that they have arrested 87-year-old Taro Kawashima,
after being accused of choking to death his wife, 85-year-old Yuki
Kawashima.
Taro was charged with one count of murder. According to the police
investigation, the incident unfolded on Saturday around 12:30 a.m.
Taro went into his wife’s room, where she has been for the past 10 years
due to an illness, and covered her nose and mouth until she stopped
breathing.
Taro then called the police to say that he killed his wife. Police
officers who arrived at the scene, found Yuki unresponsive in her bed.
She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead due to asphyxiation. Taro was arrested at the scene.
During questioning, Taro told police that he killed his wife because he
was sick of taking care of her. The couple’s 55-year-old son who lives
next door to his parents, said that his father was worn out.
