Following the recent bombing in Abuja and others parts of the country, the House of Representatives members yesterday instituted an adhoc committee to investigate the 2010 $470 million Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) contracts awarded for Lagos and Abuja in 2010 by the last administration.

A Lawmaker representing Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Adekoya Adesegun Abdel-Majid brought the motion for the investigation of the contract yesterday October 8th.

Hon. Adekoya said it was important that government takes seriously the need for proper surveillance of major cities, state capitals and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in face of the current security challenges facing the nation.

“That these criminal activities have led to loss of many innocent lives, displacement of thousands of people, destruction of properties worth millions of Naira, traumatization of many and destabilization of economic activities with the attendant damage to the image of the country”.

He called for an immediate investigation into the contract awarded to ZTE Corporation as far back as 2010 at a cost of $470million. In a unanimous vote, the House members approved the call for an investigation into the contract and immediately setup an Ad-hoc committee to investigate the circumstances of the award of the previous installation contract directing the committee to report back to the House within four weeks for legislative action.
