The Edo State Police Command yesterday paraded 76 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers, child defilers, including a 38 year-old Osazuwa Ehizogie who defiled a 10 year-old child at Ikpoba Hill Benin City.
The Edo state Police Commissioner, Mr Foluso Adebanjo, who disclosed that the command would set up a special squad to mop up illegal arms from people while parading the suspects, raised an alarm over the alleged acquisition of arms by politicians in the state ahead the 2015 general elections.
He admonished political leaders in the state to ensure a level playing ground for all aspirants, attributing violence in political parties to failure by political leaders to allow internal democracy flourish in their parties.
While urging all those in possession of illegal arms to surrender, the Edo CP announced that the Command would offer a handsome financial reward for any information that will lead to the recovery of illegal arms and ammunitions in the state.
Some of the items recovered from the suspects included 30 vehicles, 17 assorted guns, 30 live cartridges, cutlasses, fake US Dollars and N19, 700. The CP also paraded one Ifeanyi Umeh who was allegedly involved in the production of illicit and adulterated drinks at Upper Sakpoba Road. The suspect confessed to Vanguard, saying that he produced the Hennessey, Red Label and other hot drinks with water and ethanol.
