The police in South Africa are currently investigating two Nigerians and an Israeli citizen who allegedly attempted to carry $9.3 million (1,518,223,580.46) in cash into the country.

Reuters reports that a spokesman confirmed the incident saying that the trio are being questioned on what might have been part of an arms deal.

Spokeswoman for the South African Revenue Service (SARS), Marika Muller reportedly said that the funds were seized at Lanseria airport, northwest of Johannesburg, and are currently being held at the nation’s central bank.

The passengers’ luggage was searched after Customs officials detected irregularities. The money was detained as it was undisclosed/undeclared and above the prescribed legal limit,”

The money was said to have been made up of unused $100 bills packed in three suitcases and was reportedly transported in a small business jet from the Nigerian capital, Abuja.

According to South Africa’s City Press newspaper, the 3 passengers stated that the money was to be used to buy arms for the Nigerian security services.
