GOVERNOR Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State has advised pregnant women and nursing mothers in the state not to pay any health official for medical services.
Addressing pregnant women at the Mother and Child Centre, Central Hospital, Warri, he said that the cost of their medicare was covered by the state government’s free maternal and under-five health care programme.
Governor Uduaghan, who inquired from the women if doctors and nurses were collecting money from them and was told that they weren’t, urged them to resist anybody who demands money from them.
He said: “You are not to give money to anybody. You should not make any payment, even if it requires operation. The services are free and your children who are five years and below have free medical attention.”
He advised the expectant mothers to keep their ante-natal clinic appointments religiously in the interest of their health and unborn babies.
