Tipsy ‘trademarks’

Yewande Abiodun, popularly known as Tipsy in the Nigerian music industry, has ‘trademarked’ her stage name.

As a result of the usage of that same name by other artistes, she decided to put an end to it by registering the name as a trademark with the appropriate authority in Nigeria.

The registration stops all other persons from making use of the name or other names close to it for business activities relating to the entertainment industry.

According to her: “I decided to trademark my name because it is the right thing to do. It should have been done a while ago but I have done it now.

There is only one Olamide, one Davido, and One Dbanj. There can only be one Tipsy in the music industry. There are two other people using the same name. Even my sister downloads their songs thinking it’s my own song.

The impact it will have on my music career is that people will be able to differentiate between the real Tipsy and the other ones riding on my name to sell their music. I will advice other artistes to start trade marking their names.

It’s not fair when someone works hard and someone else comes from nowhere to release their works in their own names. Trademark registration is affordable. Do it.”
