Popular gospel singer and preacher, Deitrick Haddon, opened up in a recent interview on why he left his home and ministry after separating from his ex-wife, Damita.
The singer who is also the son of a preacher says at those times he felt it was a โwar against Godโ, as he went out of control doing some un-Christian like things before he got inspired to come up with the reality TV show โ Preachers of L.A.
Speaking to New York Times, he said:
โI was wilding outโ. โYou name it, I did it. Strip clubs, drinking, things that was completely out of my character.โ
โYou donโt expect that the same people that you helped and encouraged to treat you that way,โ he said.
Haddon said heโd impregnated his new girlfriend, Dominique Haddon, and then everything started to fall apart.
He later got a call from an old friend and fellow preacher, Zachery Tims, who had publicly discussed many of his own struggles. โI began to pour out my heart,โ Mr. Haddon said.
โPeople need to know the truth about us men,โ he told Mr. Tims. โWe need to do a reality show about stuff like this.โ Mr. Tims agreed. A few weeks later, Mr. Tims succumbed to a drug overdose in a New York hotel room.
โI was so consumed with my issue that I couldnโt hear him,โ Mr. Haddon said regretfully.
The singer said his recovery led to one of last yearโs most invigorating and surprising reality television, Preachers of L.A. which will debut its second season on Oxygen.
