An armed robber was arrested on a charge of robbery after allegedly tying up the owner of a convenience store and stealing cash, according to police in Japan.

Saitama police said that they have arrested 29-year-old Katsutoshi Ozaki of Tokyo, after being accused of stealing $17,500 from a safe of the convenience store.

According to the police investigation, the incident unfolded on Wednesday afternoon. Ozaki entered the convenience store and pointed a knife at the owner, demanding that he open the safe.

The robber then tied the owner’s hands and feet. Ozaki then left the store with 1.75 million yen ($17,500). The owner called the police, but they were unable to find the suspect.

At 11:00 p.m., Ozaki returned to the store in order to apologize for the crime.

He said that he desperately needed the money to pay his debts, but regretted what he had done and wanted to apologize to the owner and staff.

The police were called to the scene and Ozaki was arrested.

There was no sign of the cash.
